25 Things to Know about the 2013 College Football Season

Aug 31, 2013 by

  1.  Before we start, let’s take a 15 second moment of silence…somewhere Johnny Football is currently signing an autograph…for free…
  2. Alabama – Can anyone truly “Control the Tide” this season, outside of Texas A&M’s Athletic Director?  Or is the 3 peat inevitable?  Nick Saban is turning into Bear Bryant before our eyes.
  3. Teddy Bridgewater – Can this young talented Louisville QB win the Heisman?  How about lead the team to an undefeated season?  We’ll have to wait and see what’s in the CARDS!
  4. Who wins the Pac 12 this season?  The Ducks, the Cardinals, The Bruins or the Men of Troy?  Dark horse could be Oregon State.
  5. Can Urban Meyer and The Ohio State run the table once again?  The reward this year would most likely be the SEC Champion in the National Title Game.
  6. Ex-Badger Coach Bielema is now down in Arkansas.  How does this SEC initiation sound?  The first four games – vs. #7 Texas A&M, @ #10 Florida, vs. #6 South Carolina, @ #1 Alabama…Have fun with that one Bielema…  #OnWisconsin
  7. Penn State – It will be interesting what year 2 brings as they are now down even more scholarship players…they surprised everyone last year under first year Coach Bill O’Brien.  I truly appreciate his commitment to the university.
  8. Heisman Watch List – Johnny Manziel, Marcus Mariota, Tajh Boyd, Aaron Murray, Braxton Miller, and Jadeveon Clowney.  One of the best things about college football is the winner may not even be in this list.
  9. Oregon QB Marcus Mariota – This gifted football player brings excitement and for those living on the East Coast, he is definitely worth staying up late to watch one or five of his games.
  10. SEC Dominance – Can some team outside of the SEC please win the National Championship?  I am sick of this SEC Speed talk, yeah yeah yeah.  I have to admit, even as a Big 10 guy, the SEC Champ should be in the National Title game no matter what…the conference has earned it.  That was tough to admit.
  11. Will Oregon’s offense slow down this season without Chip Kelly at the helm?  Don’t bet on it!
  12. Surprise National Champion possibility – the Texas Longhorns.  They return almost every starter from last season’s solid 9-4 team along with a fairly soft schedule.  Mack Brown is hungry to get back on the National Championship stage!
  13. Time for Boise St. to make it back into a BCS Game.  I think they have a respectable chance, given their overall consistency within year in and year out along with an easier schedule…although the game @ Utah State on October 12th could be a trap.
  14. Thousands of fans each Saturday morning will gather around the ESPN crew and scream when Lee Corso puts on some ridiculous mascot head – yup, got to love this whole college football thing!

Marquee Games

  1. Tonight – tune in for Georgia vs. Clemson.  These two high powered offenses could set the stage for one of the greatest games of this entire year.  Love the early ACC / SEC battle.
  2. Notre Dame @ Michigan – September 7th.  Definitely giving the edge to the Wolverines this year – time for the Big 10 to represent.
  3. Florida @ Miami (FL) – September 7th.  How about these two storied programs….full of arrests and suspensions that is!  There will not be a shortage of athletes in this early season battle.
  4. Big time SEC matchup:  Bama @ Texas A&M – September 14th .  Just as an FYI Nick Saban has two weeks to prepare for Johnny Manziel and College Station.  Although, Saban’s probably been preparing for this game since the day after the National Championship win vs. Notre Dame.
  5. Wisconsin @ Ohio State – September 28th. The “Big Sausages” (UW Offensive Line) vs. the Heisman hopeful Braxton Miller and the Buckeyes.  The Horse Shoe will be a rockin’ for this one!
  6. Texas vs. Oklahoma – October 12th. Both of these teams are flying under the radar this season…we are talking about Mack Brown vs. Bob Stoops, GAME ON!
  7. Georgia @ Florida – November 2nd.  This mid-season battle down at the Swamp could go a long ways in determining who wins the loaded SEC East.
  8. Oregon @ Stanford – November 7th. We know Oregon will bring the sexy uniforms while Stanford will bring the smash mouth football.
  9. LSU @ Alabama – Nov. 9th. Two things we know here – Les Miles will probably taste a little grass on game day and a whole bunch of these players will eventually be playing on Sunday.  A true SEC East battle here folks!
  10. Clemson @ South Carolina – November 30th . This regular season finale could have huge National Title implications, plus this game fits the term Rivalry Week to a T!  My good friend works for Clemson, so go Tigers!
  11. Florida State @ Florida – November 30th . The traditional in-state rivalry is always a late season war and this year should be no different.

Enjoy the season ladies and gentlemen!
